Have you ever spent an uncomfortable night while camping because your sleeping bag was not cozy or pleasant at all? If you have, then you should probably consider bringing along a better camping bed next time. A good one will keep you warm and comfortable all night long and will make your camping experience a lot more enjoyable.

There are actually different types of camping beds that you can use depending on your preference. Of course, you always have the option of sticking with the usual sleeping bag. Sleeping bags have the advantage of being very easy to bring along. However, they don’t offer sufficient insulation and can be uncomfortable, especially when they are used on bumpy, uneven ground. You must remember though that some die-hard camping aficionados swear that the only way to experience the great outdoors is to sleep on a sleeping bag under the stars.

On the other end of the spectrum are campers who prioritize comfort over everything else. These people usually bring a huge camping bed mattress for their camping trip. The good thing about thick mattresses such as these is that you can use them as a spare bed for your guests when you are at home since they are very, very comfortable. However, when using these for camping, they are also very, very difficult to lug around because of their sheer size.

Another option would be to go for folding cots or folding beds. Folding cots are the more practical option because they are smaller and easier to carry, though they sometimes take up too much space on your backpack.

Probably the best option as far as camping bedding is concerned is self-inflating mattresses. These have struck the right balance of providing you with a comfortable place to sleep at night without torturing you in the day because of the difficulties in lugging them around. Self-inflating mattresses are very light and doesn’t add to much weight on your backpack. They don’t take up too much space either. You can even choose to tie them to the outside of your backpack where they will stay compressed and out of your way. In addition, they will keep you warm at night because they offer superb insulation.
