Multi-Fuel Burning Stoves: Buying and Usage Recommendations

The main advantage of multi-fuel burning stoves is that they are compatible with fuel types other than white gas. They are ideal alternatives to use especially if your outdoor explorations take you out of the country. Since white gas might not readily be available in locations outside of the United States, buying a multi-fuel stove will serve you well.
Take note, however, that multi-fuel doesn’t mean any kind of fuel will do. The most popular multi-fuel burning stoves use unleaded gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and in some cases, aviation fuel. Because these fuels are not as clean as white gas, you will have to exert extra effort in cleaning your stove. Unleaded gasoline is easy to find overseas but is highly explosive and kerosene has a tendency to clog the stove. To get the most out of multi-fuel burning stoves, it may help to refine the fuel you’re using with a filter. Also, clean your stove often to prevent build-up.
There are many multi-fuel burning stoves available in the market. The Coleman Exponent multi-fuel stove is a good brand to start with. It boasts of excellent flame control and will work well even in windy weather. Primus is also a good brand, though a bit more expensive. It is lightweight and will work with LP gas, unleaded gasoline and kerosene.
